The transformative nature of technology opens up opportunities for value creation. In addition, it has the potential to realign relationships between producers, the channel, and the market. We will examine several examples from other industries of changes in the service delivery brought about by evolving market conditions and increased cost pressures, made possible by the adoption of technology solutions. We will present the results of a survey of manufacturers and distributors on the current status of eCommerce in the electrical industry. Further, we will identify the inhibitors to the greater utilization of eCommerce in the electrical industry, as well as the enablers of eCommerce solutions. We will discuss the role of standards as an essential ingredient of success in this endeavor.
